Are you troubled by leaking from the crotch on an airtight wetsuit? In this video, we show how to repair a wetsuit with a crotch-gusset replacement. Please see our techniques specialized in repairing surfing wetsuits. https://wet-repair.com/ Thank you as always for watching.
Wetsuit symptoms can require different repair methods even when they look similar. Beyond tears and leaks, it's also necessary to check hardening of the surrounding fabric, peeled bonded areas, past repair marks, and whether it's a spot that bears load during putting on and taking off.
What we check during the repair process
A craftsman looks at more than just the single broken spot. We check the surface flaw, peeling on the back, the stretch of the surrounding fabric, part deterioration, and past repair marks together. Even a small tear, if it's in a spot where load concentrates, may need backing reinforcement or wider repair.
Cases that can be repaired
If the fabric still has some softness and the tear or leak is limited in scope, there's a chance it can keep being used with repair. We choose a reasonable method suited to the symptoms—bonding repair, partial reinforcement, part replacement, fabric patching, and so on.
Cases to watch out for
When the rubber has hardened all over, when there's a wide split, or when repairs in multiple spots make the cost high, it may be better to consider replacement as well. At wet-repair.com, we honestly advise repair when a repair will suffice, and include Factory Direct Wetsuits when replacement is realistic.
Photos that are good to send for a LINE estimate
- A close-up photo of the damaged area
- A full photo from a slight distance showing the location
- A photo viewed from the back
- Possibly related areas such as the neck, wrists, ankles, and zipper
- A note showing years of use and usage frequency
We can sometimes give a rough estimate from photos alone, but the official price and turnaround are provided after checking the condition.
